The Zillertal
The Zillertal branches off from the Inntal ca. 40 km east of Innsbruck, near Jenbach. In a narrower sense, the valley extends from Strass im Zillertal to Mayrhofen, where in the Tuxertal, it divides into the Zamser Grund, Stillupgrund, and Zillergrund (the smaller valleys are referred to as "Gründe").
From the northern valley, the unpopulated Märzengrund and Finsinggrund, which include the tourist destination of Hochfügen, branch off from the Gerlostal valley just outside Zell am Ziller.
The valley separates the Tuxer Alps in the west from the Kitzbüheler Alps in the east. In the south, on the border of south Tyrol, are the Zillertal Alps with the main Zillertal ridge. Politically it belongs to the district of Schwaz.
